HOLIDAY FASHION DESIGN INSPIRATION WORKSHOP
by Melanie Finger

Due to the wonderful response we received for our Fashion Design inspiration series run on a Tuesday afternoon at Riverbend Books + Teahouse we are pleased to offer a 3 afternoon holiday workshop covering a condensed version of the course!
The term-time inspiration series has been incredibly successful with fashion designer Melanie Finger providing a wealth of information that was particularly pertinent to those children considering Fashion Design as a career! With wonderful inspiration on mood boards, designing your own label and of course drawing your own range of fashion, Melanie encouraged each child to pursue their own creativity and passion!
For those who were interested but unable to attend, we will run these workshops again during the holidays!

When: Monday 24Th, Tuesday 25Th, Wednesday 26Th September
Time: afternoon session 2.00-3.30pm
Cost: $80 for three 1.5hr sessions
Age: we are taking all expressions of interest for this class until Thurs 6th September.
[opening up from younger through older children to see where the interest lies in order to set a preferred age for these sessions. Melanie will then tailor the course accordingly.]

Please email melissa@guyatt.net with expressions of interest and bookings - book early as places fill quickly!

more class fun!

Our mono printing class on Thursday afternoon was full and fun!
Children concentrated very hard to grasp the new skill, and after a few practice prints, ensuring the wet consistency of the paint and understanding how to build up the printed layers, the children's confidence grew! We took our inspiration + colour palette from the many textures and colours of the Australian snow gum trees.
The following are a few snaps of their finished work [the one above is sensational don't you think?], printed on natural clipboards - a wonderfully personalised take-home-tool for future sketching and creating!

:: trial prints on paper, grasping the background, mid and foreground layers!

:: experimenting with textures and printing techniques - love the beaming smile!

:: This one made me smile - he'd just been to a science class and was inspired by a 'new invention' he was planning - love!

:: Beautiful and diverse linework

:: wonderful natural winter scenes!

monoprint magic!

Wow! Tuesday's was an intensly busy painting class! The children inspired me with their wonderful grasp of a new technique and their layered creations were textured and beautiful! We wandered through a 'bushwalk' story, imagining colours, textures, creatures and scenes we might come across and added to our inspiration with works from famous monoprint artist, Edgar Degas, and other beautiful works of printed art!
We began painting with a very basic monoprint using a single colour and a cotton bud to scratch the design into the paint. We then worked with textures we might find around the home with repeat patterns, muffin tins, bubble wrap, netting, corrugated card to print onto our fabric and watercolour paper a background. As this dried, we worked quickly with multiple colours to paint a design of the child's own choosing onto the acrylic surface, pulling our final prints layered over the textural background. The signed works are abstract and beautiful! A special mention to all children in this class, your patience and manners while waiting for extra paint and a change of water was exceptional - great work young artists!

SCHOOL HOLIDAY WSHOP D: monoprint mania!

The last to plan, and such an exciting, open ended workshop! We will explore the art of basic MONO PRINTING. Looking to nature as our inspiration and extrapolating shapes to further layer in our design we will stamp with 'bubble wrap + muffin tins' as a background for our designs, paint on acrylic sheets and then take a print of our work - the sky's the limit with what they might stamp and paint and if they don't like their 'practice work' they clean off the sheet and paint the design over - such a fun creative process!! Gum leaves + seeds were the inspiration for my children + I as we experiemented with this exciting medium...
